Alan Bramson was a wartime RAF flying instructor during WW2, with an A1 rating. After the war he became a professional pilot and, in the course of writing for aviation magazines worldwide, flew 270 types of aircraft ranging in size from single seat racers to a four engine passenger jet. From 1973 until his retirement in 1983 he was Chairman of the Panel of Examiners which tests flying instructors on behalf of the UK Civil Aviation Authority.
