This sets out the characteristic elements common to artistic creativity stretching back to the 7th century, from Spain to Indonesia. A series of thematic chapters then provide cultural context while pointing out exceptional features, followed by an exploration of the selected works of art in detail. By showing the complete object as well as enlarged details - sometimes virtually invisible to the naked eye - intriguing comparisons can be drawn between seemingly unrelated media.
