Hiberno-English differs from standard English in a number of ways, most notably through the retention of archaic forms redundant in standard English and through borrowings from the Irish language.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Terence Patrick Dolan has been researching Hiberno-English since 1978. He has published and broadcast widely on English language and literature in Ireland and has edited and provided an introduction to P. W. Joyce's 'English as We Speak it in Ireland'. In 1996, in order to mark Ireland's presidency of the European Union, he was invited to lecture on the subject in Brussels and Luxembourg. He was a Senior Scholar at Oxford before joining the English Department at University College, Dublin, where he is now Associate Professor in Old and Middle English. He is a former Director of the International James Joyce Summer School and is one of the world's leading authorities on Hiberno-English.
