There is a publisher's label affixed to the centre of the half title that has been signed 'Willy Poole' in blue ballpoint. Arthur James was born as a pen-name because R. W. F. Poole wanted to be able to write rude things about his friends in the morning and still be invited to drink their port in the evening. Arthur James's articles, on every subject under the sun, but having a definite bent towards hunting, good friends and fine frolics, started appearing in the 'Shooting Times' in the early 1980s. This is a selection of some of the best from the first years. In this collection of short pieces, ideal for bedtime reading except for the danger of falling out of bed from laughing, James gallivants over hill and dale on horseback, props up bars at county and hound shows, and sorties abroad, often with alarming consequences.
