Amy Carter is just fourteen when she has to leave school to look after her sick mother. When her father is tried and hanged for the murder of a local man and shortly after, her mother dies, Amy is left with no-one.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Beryl Matthews joined a writers' group when she retired seven years ago and started working on her own novel. The result was The Open Door (Penguin 2002), based very loosely on her mother's early life. The second in the trilogy, Wings of the Morning, A time of Peace, A Change of Fortune and Fighting with Shadows are all published by Penguin.
