This book concentrates wholly on the all-important role of the commanding officer. There are many books which study the art of high command in war, and almost as many on individual acts of heroism. David Miller spent 36 years in the Army, retiring as a Colonel. A freelance journalist and author, he has published 26 previous books, most of them on defence subjects. His most recent book, The Cold War, Oleg Gordievsky called 'particularly interesting', and George Walden 'awesome in every sense'.
