Solon and Olga gather their middle-class family together for Christmas. The Vortex children reflect Haiti's cultural richness: they are cheerful, violent, cynical and generous. Edgard is assistant to Estime, the popular, reform-minded president who embodies the hopes of ordinary Haitians. Joseph is a respected priest; Louis, a university lecturer; and Sylvain, a doctor. But the festivities are haunted by the absence of the mysterious Astrid, exiled for political reasons....
