Created from part of the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, Murray County is an area of Oklahoma rich in resources and heritage. The 420 square miles of rolling hills and fields were home to several different groups and tribes of Native Americans, as well as an abundance of bison and other wild animals.

Debbie Sharp, Richard W. Chadwick, and C. Roland Earsom have worked jointly to present this pictorial retrospective that provides a nostalgic look back at Murray County's past. They undertook this project of compiling over two hundred previously unpublished photographs with explanatory captions because they felt the need to leave this legacy of things as they were in the twentieth century to the children and adults of tomorrow. The driving force of this project has been the phrase, "yesterday's necessities are tomorrow's treasures, only if collected today."
