Peekskill also presents the prominent people of this community, who include Joseph Binney, owner of the company that later became the maker of Crayola products; Chauncey Depew, keynote speaker at the 1886 dedication of the Statue of Liberty; and George Pataki, governor of New York State.

John J. Curran is the Peekskill city historian and the author of several publications, historical videotapes, and screenplays. He has been associated with the Peekskill Museum since 1986 as a board member and officer. He selected the photographs for Peekskill from the collections of the Peekskill Museum, the Field Library, and the Peekskill Military Academy archive.
