Located on ancient land between the Tortolita and Santa Catalina Mountains north of Tucson, the town of Oro Valley is very much a newcomer, having officially incorporated in 1974. But its earliest families date back to 1100, when the Hohokam established villages in the area. Author Barbara Marriott turned her curiosity about the Southwest into a passion that led her to write several nonfiction books. For this visual retrospective, she has partnered with the Oro Valley Historical Society to capture the spirit of this unique town through the photo albums of its pioneer families. The Oro Valley Historical Society works diligently to bring their town's history to life through educational programs, as well as through the collection and preservation of artifacts, images, and oral histories.
