Inhaltsangabe

In 1732, Salisbury Towne was founded on the eastern coast of Maryland on 15 acres, which belonged to William Winder. The town flourished, and upon the founding of Wicomico County in 1867, its county seat was declared Salisbury. Both the town and the county grew rapidly, earning Salisbury the nickname "Crossroads of Delmarva," a fitting moniker for what is today the most populated city between Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Dover, Delaware.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Author Jason Rhodes, award-winning journalist and photographer, has combed through hundreds of photos from collections from the Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture at Salisbury University, the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Salisbury Jaycees to select over 200 images that help tell Salisbury's story. These images, many never-before-seen, take readers from the Great Fire of 1886, to the founding of Salisbury University in 1925, to the golden era of the 1950s and 1960s with hangouts such as Johnny's and Sammy's and the Polar Bar, and the birth of the downtown plaza. A lifelong resident of Maryland's Eastern Shore, Rhodes has authored previous Arcadia books on his native Crisfield and Somerset County, as well as a history of amusement parks in Maryland.
