In this wide ranging study of postcolonial and immigrant writing in Britain, ten contributors - including Booker shortlist nominee Abdulrazak Gurnah - examine the extent to which Britain's colonial heritage has shaped present-day formulations of British culture. Covering the work of key writers - including Timothy Mo, V.S. Naipaul, Salman Rushdie, Caryl Phillips, Hanif Kureishi, Kazuo Ishiguro and David Dabydeen - this collection explores how such writers bring very different critical sensibilities to bear on literary conventions. Also examined are the literary contributions of writers from Jewish Britain, Irish-Britain and Australasian Britain.

A. Robert Lee, a British national, taught for nearly thirty years at the University of Kent in Canterbury, UK. He has also held visiting professor roles in the United States at institutions such as the University of Virginia, Bryn Mawr College, Northwestern University, the University of Colorado, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of New Mexico. From 1997 to 2011, Lee served as an English professor at Nihon University in Tokyo before retiring from his academic career. His notable academic work includes the book Multicultural American Literature: Comparative Black, Native, Latino/a and Asian Fictions (2003), which received the American Book Award in 2004. His poetry collections published by 2Leaf Press include Imaginarium: Sightings, Galleries, Sightlines (2013), Off Course: Roundabouts & Deviations (2016), and Written Eye: Visuals/Verse, A Poetry Collection (2017).
