Tim de Dombal set up the first information science course for medical students in Leeds, and several other universities have since adopted it. The General Medical Council now requires medical students to be taught the essentials of information science and technology, and this book is effectively the 'book of the course'. It has considerable potential in allied health disciplines only because of its clinical bias. It is not an abstract, theoretical book but relates the science and technology to clinical situations, thus making it more attractive to the medical undergraduate.
