Reseña del editor:
This Sista-girl friendly novel briefly takes readers back to the small town of Oakridge in the 1970's where a young African American attorney, Thomas Miner, is murdered to conceal a will that names an illegitimate black child as heir to a family's massive fortune.Twenty-six years later, Attorney Marie Perry, a beautiful, straight-laced goody-two-shoes takes the high-profile case in an effort to further her career. During the course of the investigation, Marie makes a discovery about herself that changes her life and brings her closer to God.The fast-pace moves the story along and gives fiction the same soul-stirring jolt that Kirk Franklin gave rap music. Carefully introduced subplots add different textures as does lively supporting characters to this realistic plot about guilt, greed, lies and what happens when secrets are divulged.
Biografía del autor:
Hallmark lost her business when Booker was forced to make her mom a birthday card after spending the money her father gave for it. Fortunately, her creativity turned out to be beautiful prose and a new way of showing her love.Always keeping the pen to paper, years later she submitted an article to the local weekly edition of her town's newspaper and became a staff writer shortly after. Booker began writing hard news but didn't care for the leads that ended in sad or tragic stories, so she moved on to human-interest stories that gave her the opportunity to interact with people under less stressful conditions. These were stories that added good news to the morning paper, which she felt was important to the community. During interviews, Booker often thought how much more exciting the story could be if only.... But of course she could not stray from the truth. An avid reader, she'd find interesting books to read, but as a Christian, she was constantly stumbling over four-letter words. In her novel, Family Secrets, Booker caters to vulgarity sensitivity and leaves graphic sex scenes in the bedroom where they belong. This powerful real life storyline is a page-turner that provides an excellent read.Booker resides in California with her husband, Harris of 22 years and their Toy Poodle, Pepe'.
