Thirteen contributions discuss constitutionalism and the rule of law in China, India, and Europe. An important underlying theme for the articles is the examination of the legitimacy and effects of the imposition of European constitutional and legal forms on former colonies. On the whole, the authors argue that even in an increasingly global economy, the nation-state and the rule of law should and can remain the primary arbiter of authority as long as there are sufficient mechanisms that allow for a society's ability to change the rules in an orderly way.
