Jessie L. Beattie was born on a farm near Blair, Ontario. She has compressed several careers into one lifetime - librarian, teacher, social worker, dramatist and author. She has won admiration and acclaim for her contributions to Canadian literature from such peers in the field as Sir Charles G. D. Roberts, E. J. Pratt, Pelham Edgar, Will R. Bird, W. A.
