Basing her theoretical work on interviews with adult education students and educators, Preece (higher education, U. of Surrey, England) uses Foucauldian analysis to describe the discourses driving traditional university adult and continuing education studies. The volume's 11 chapters address the context and theoretical framework for the study; the research framework, including ethical and methodological issues; the context for the group interviews; analysis of selected paperwork issued by one continuing education department; 13 interviews; and analysis of themes found in the interviews.
