This book comprises most of the papers presented at the First US/Japan Workshop on Life-Cycle Cost Analysis and Design of Civil Infrastructure Systems, held in Honolulu, Hawaii, August 7-8, 2000, and several invited contributions, mostly from Europe. The 18 papers cover a wide range of studies on life-cycle cost analysis, design, maintenance and management of civil infrastructure systems. Contributions are from a range of internationally recognized researchers and practicing structural engineers from the United States, Japan, and Europe. Charlotte y Peter Fiell son dos autoridades en historia, teoría y crítica del diseño y han escrito más de sesenta libros sobre la materia, muchos de los cuales se han convertido en éxitos de ventas. También han impartido conferencias y cursos como profesores invitados, han comisariado exposiciones y asesorado a fabricantes, museos, salas de subastas y grandes coleccionistas privados de todo el mundo.
