An anonymous informant tells Miami newspaper reporter Michael Posten the name of the next victim of a serial killer who has been traveling around the country inflicting horrible deaths upon people who seem to have no connection. When the prediction comes true, the informant demands payment for future tips, which brings Posten into collaboration with FBI serial killer expert Victoria Santos, who is convinced that the informant and the killer are two different people. The point of view changes from reporter to agent to killer, and the suspense builds to a climactic scene aboard a Caribbean cruiseship. Attorney/novelist Grippando has written a page-turner with an intriguing cast and all the gory details reminiscent of John Sandford's "Prey" series (e.g., Winter Prey, Audio Reviews, LJ 12/95). Veteran narrator George Guidall voices each character and adequately conveys the suspense, though listeners who are familiar with his readings of more lighthearted fare may have to make an adjustment to appreciate the gravity of this title.
