This compact (22-centimeter) work features 12 thematic maps of the world, 62 regional maps with computer-generated terrain modeling, and an index-gazetteer including 20,000 place names. Large countries such as the United States and the Russian Federation receive greater regional detail. Each of the world's 192 independent nations is provided a brief data profile within the gazetteer; dependent states are treated in a separate section arranged by name of administering power. This completely up-to-date atlas reflects the high quality of the publisher's reference works, but it is best suited for students and home or office use owing to its size and limited scope.
