The Peace dollar, issued from 1921 through 1935, commemorated the end of the most traumatic war in human history and has become one of America's most admired and collectible coins. In the newly updated 4th edition of A Guide Book of Peace Dollars, award-winning author Roger W. Burdette delivers the authoritative research, engaging history, and practical guidance collectors have come to expect from the Red Book Series.
Burdette explores the origins of the Peace dollar (including the American Numismatic Association's involvement), the coin's production process, early designs and casts, ways to collect, preservation methods, and the market impact of hoards and meltings. He covers every date and mintmark of America's last 90% silver dollar, as well as the mysterious 1964-D Peace dollar, proofs, patterns, trial pieces, errors and misstrikes, countermarks, die varieties, and even unusual examples from the personal collection of a former Mint director.

Roger W. Burdette began his coin-collecting journey filling cent and nickel folders from pocket change, later turning his passion toward coin photography and, ultimately, numismatic research. Over decades of study, he has uncovered significant new information about U.S. coinage history.
He is best known as the author of the award-winning Renaissance of American Coinage trilogy, which earned three consecutive Numismatic Literary Guild "Book of the Year" awards (2006-2008). Burdette has also published specialized digital works, including Annual Assay Commission: United States Mint 1800-1943 and Silver Dollars Struck Under the Pittman Act of 1918. His writing has appeared widely in Coin World, The Numismatist, and other major publications.
Burdette contributes regularly to the Guide Book of United States Coins (Red Book) and numerous other Whitman titles, including works on type coins, nickels, silver dollars, and double eagles. He also served as a contributor to Judd's United States Pattern Coins and the USPatterns.com website.
In 2008, he was appointed to the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee, advising the U.S. Treasury on coin and medal designs. Burdette lives near Washington, D.C., with his daughters.
