Highly regarded Old Testament theologian John Goldingay is often asked about the interpretation of the Bible, about the way we are to understand the stories in the Bible, about the relationship between the Old Testament and the New, and so on. In this volume he explores twentythree questions related to biblical interpretation, articulating creative, provocative explanations for today's church. The book is divided into four parts: concerning Scripture as a whole; concerning narrative; concerning the Old Testament as a whole; and concerning the Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings. Students of the Old Testament, pastors, and laypeople will value this work.

"These essays are a collection of sage, mature reflections on perennially difficult yet vital matters of Old Testament interpretation by one of the foremost Old Testament theologians in the evangelical world. Goldingay does not provide pat answers to tough passages or the like. Rather, he guides his readers in the process of deep hermeneutical reflection on what it means to read the Old Testament well and christianly. Throughout, Goldingay's common sense, innovation, and call for critical self-reflection are contagious, and his readers will benefit greatly from his efforts."
--Peter Enns, senior fellow of biblical studies, The BioLogos Foundation
"In this collection of reworked essays and articles that span over thirty years of Old Testament study, Goldingay provides valuable and stimulating answers to questions always relevant for thinking Christians."
--Leslie Allen, senior professor of Old Testament, Fuller Theological Seminary
