This is the third and final book in an informal set on the New Testament's use of the Old Testament, written by a recognized authority on the topic. The work covers several New Testament books that embody key developments in early Christian understanding of Jesus in light of the Old Testament. This quick and reliable resource orients students to the landscape before they read more advanced literature on the use of the Old Testament in later writings of the New Testament. The book can be used as a supplemental text in undergraduate or seminary New Testament introductory classes.

Steve Moyise (PhD, University of Birmingham) is professor of New Testament at the University of Chichester in Chichester, England. He is the author ofPaul and Scripture and Jesus and Scripture. His other books includeThe Old Testament in the Book of Revelation, The Old Testament in the New, andEvoking Scripture: Seeing the Old Testament in the New.
"Steve Moyise provides the most thorough, judicious, and sophisticated assessment of how the New Testament authors understood Scripture and adapted it to shape identity and belief. While some scriptural texts exercised nearly universal influence, Moyise also demonstrates the distinctive and often innovative appropriations of Scripture we encounter in Acts, 1 Peter, Jude and 2 Peter, James, Hebrews, Revelation, and the Johannine Epistles."
--Greg Carey, Lancaster Theological Seminary
"Pragmatically adapting his approach to the way each author uses Scripture, Moyise has produced a valuable and nuanced study of both the citations and allusions found in these writings. He brings together the results of earlier studies and adds to them his own insightful reflections and conservative judgments. Always careful but never dull, Moyise has provided us with a reliable guide to this complex topic."
--David L. Barr, Wright State University
Praise for Paul and Scripture
"Moyise, one of the leading international scholars on the subject of the New Testament's use of the Old Testament, asks how each of the main features of Paul's teaching grows out of and interacts with the Hebrew Scriptures. Moyise illuminates well how Scripture functioned for the first great Christian theologian without ignoring the various questions that such treatment still raises both for students of Paul and for those who ask how Scripture should function today."
--James D. G. Dunn, Durham University
"[An] accessible and student-friendly book. . . . [Moyise] is eminently successful in providing an introductory text that would be a useful companion to an upper-level undergraduate or seminary course on Paul and his letters."
--David Lincicum, Religious Studies Review
Praise for Jesus and Scripture
"This balanced and informed survey of a fascinating and controversial topic--Jesus and Scripture--should serve students well. A first-rate introduction."
--Dale C. Allison, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary
"A first-class introduction to the ways in which Jesus used the Scriptures of Israel, both in his teaching and in his own self-understanding. . . . Lucid, accessible, and highly engaging, Moyise's survey of the area will be of particular use to students studying the Gospels."
--Gary W. Burnett, Journal for the Study of the New Testament
