There are many theories about the nature of time. Cutting throughthe confusion caused by varying perspectives, this volume developsa provocative new model of time that unites the views of anthropology, science, and religion.In their engaging examination of the multiple dimensions oftime, Wolfgang Achtner, Stefan Kunz, and Thomas Walter firstconsider the ways people can experience time mythologically, rationally, and mystically and they root these modes of experiencesin the findings of modern neuroscience. They then look atthe nature of time as it has been described by sciences most pro-foundtheories, including classical mechanics, the special andgeneral theories of relativity, quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, and chaos theory. Religion is then brought into the equation as theauthors survey how time is conceived in both the Jewish and Christianscriptures. Finally, all three of these dimensions of time are integratedinto a single, original perspective that reveals much aboutthe history of human development.
