Richard Lischer is the James T. and Alice Mead Cleland Professor of Preaching at Duke Divinity School. He is the author of several books on preaching and ministry, including The Preacher King: Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Word that Moved America; Concise Encyclopedia of Preaching, and the forthcoming anthology, The Company of Preachers. His most recent book is a memoir of his first ministry, Open Secrets: A Spiritual Journey Through a Country Church (Doubleday 2001). Other books include: Marx and Teilhard: Two Ways to the New Humanity, Speaking of Jesus: Finding the Words for Witness and Theories of Preaching: Selected Readings in the Homiletical Tradition
