John Schindel is the author of several other books for young readers and has produced and directed award-winning short films for children that have been seen in schools, libraries, and on TV. He lives in Oakland, California.

Doug Cushman has written and / or illustrated more than eighty books for children, including the popular Aunt Eater series and the New York Times bestseller What Dads Can’t Do. He lives in Redding, California.

PreSchool-K-While browsing in Elvis Grundoon's Antiques and Curiosities Shop, Raccoon finds "something wonderful, something she had never seen before." She hurries off to show Beaver, who is also taken with the "good-looking thingamajig." Porcupine calls it a "lovely whatchamacallit," and Otter declares it a "dashing thingamabob." The illustrations keep the secret hidden until the last page when the object of their affection is revealed to be a mirror-"And what each one saw was something wonderful indeed." The shiny paper allows young children to see their own reflection. Cushman's watercolor woodland animals are expressive and full of character-Beaver wears horn-rimmed glasses and reads a newspaper; Otter is a plaid-shirted fisherman. Children will enjoy chiming in on the repetitive "thingamajig, whatchamacallit, thingamabob" lines in this brief, rhythmic text.
