Inhaltsangabe

As young children (and their adult companions) talk, play, plan, write and argue, emotions are constantly present, helping to focus their attention, influence their interpretation of events, and direct their facial expressions and body language. The task of the early childhood professionals is to build on this foundation, using current knowledge and professional insights to make the curriculum "appropriately", "explicitly" and "thoughtfully" emotion-centred. In "The Emotional Development of Young Children" Marion Hyson provides readers with an innovative resource that brings together current theory and research into children's early emotional development, and applies this knowledge to practice. Proposing specific teaching strategies that advance children's understanding and appropriate expression of their emotions, Hyson focuses her suggestions for practice through the lens of classroom anecdotes drawn from direct observation.
