In what is described as more of a how-to-think than what-to-do book, Mangin (educational administration, Michigan State U.) and Stoelinga (Consortium on Chicago School Research, U. of Chicago) introduce ten chapters focusing on the renewed interest in teacher leadership roles in school improvement. Unlike an earlier emphasis on individual decision-making, this wave accents the enhancement of instruction by teachers in collaborative networks, research, and coaching roles. Following a review of these roles, contributors discuss studies of organizational factors that support/ thwart teacher leadership in different subject areas.
