She explains what differentiation is, the role of flexibility, how differentiation can help build classrooms with student variance, and how a foundation of differentiation can prepare students and teachers for more inclusive teaching and learning. She discusses different categories of learning needs, including English learners, students who have experienced trauma or poverty, LGBTQ students, students from diverse cultures, students of color, advanced and advancing learners, and students with autism, ADHD, specific learning disorder, and emotional and behavioral disorders; and teaching up to all learners so that the complex learning opportunities often reserved for a few students can be experienced by all learners.
