Inhaltsangabe

Western culture has recently experienced a major rebirth of interest in monasticism―particularly in regard to the ancient Benedictine order. In PRAYING WITH THE BENEDICTINES, Fr. De Bona has compiled an eclectic collection of Benedictine prayer, reflections, poetry and artistic expressions drawn from an international community of monks and religious women over the centuries. Although small in size, the scope and range of this book is vast. These writings represent the range of expressions of monastic personal and public prayer, while providing important reflections on the Rule of St. Benedict. That focus on Benedictine prayer makes this book unique. Some of this prayer has been expressed in reflection, music, study and art and so provides a rich and diverse landscape for contemporary meditation. This book is sure to appeal to anyone associated with, interested in, or thinking of becoming, a Benedictine. It will also be of interest to readers interested in monasticism and people looking for a prayer resource rooted in one established tradition. PRAYING WITH THE BENEDICTINES is like carrying a 1500 year history of prayer in one’s pocket. The book may be read in its entirety as an impression of Benedictine spirituality. In addition, each of the writings might also be read for personal meditation and spiritual growth. †
