Ihab Hassan is Vilas Research Professor of English and Com­parative Literature, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His early works Radical Innocence (1961), The Literature of Silence (1967), and The Dismemberment of Orpheus (1971) have become classics of modern literary criticism.
