No Binding. Zustand: Very Good. John Cage, et al. (illustrator). A Circus, by John Cage. Montage of 52 pieces of printed material in aluminum case. The case measures approx 10.15" x 11.6." I have not been able to find an itemized list of the items so we cannot verify whether this collection is complete. Searching WorldCat/OCLC and other dealer listings I have found that most have mentioned "around 50 items," with the most mentioned for sale being 52 (as with mine), yet one German library claims 55, but their entry is not itemized so it could be a clerical error. The contents are broken up as follows; 26 single sheets, 12 folded leaves, 7 letters in an envelope, and 7 booklets. The publisher's blurb sheet, with an abbreviated contents sheet (just listing highlights, not complete) is missing. As published It was placed against the back side of the metal box, under the publisher shrinkwrap Condition: Aluminum box with numerous light scratches, a few of the inserts with tiny edge chips, one with light creasing in margin, and one larger sheet slightly curled at margin. "The box contains an exceptionally wide range of materials, printed in different formats, often on translucent paper, which can be read in any order. The publication accompanies a major exhibition . conceived by Cage as a 'composition for museum.' The box includes reprints of texts that Cage found useful and inspiring, as well as important new essays. Also included are writings and letters by Cage, reproductions of works by Cage and others, musical scores, recipes, advice on healthy eating, and photographs"- Box has very minor surface scratches and a bump to bottom, contents fine.
