Reseña del editor:
Nineteenth Century series of Historical Narratives. I again disclaim, as I have done in several previous prefatory Notes, any right to be classed as an historian, and deprecate being judged by the high standards properly applied to those who look beneath the surface of events, and elucidate the causes of history. I would like to say, however, that I claim one merit for this book, that there is no other, so far as I know, which supplies what it offers to my readers, namely, a general view of what has happened in Spain during the present century. There are many excellent books, both of history and travel, which tell us about Spain in the days of her glory, about Ferdinand and I sabella, the expulsion of the Moors, the Peninsular War, the A lhambra, Bull-fights, and the Cathedrals ;but therf, seems to be nowhere, a continuous history of the period about which I have been writing. I have had to dig out my:fact5,rXM)e by one, from contemporary sources; or, to use a more feminine simile, I have drawn my threads out of tr lgled skein.
