The information in this book covers and responds to the many doubts that immigrants encounter each day. Subjects covered in the book include work, housing, health family and education, as well as difficult and unexpected situations like death, immigration status and political and popular representation.According to unofficial data, there are more than one million Braziliians in the US, with the greatest concentration in the jurisdiction of the Brazilian Consulate in New York, which covers Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Bermuda. Despite the statistics, and principally despite the large number of money transfers sent home by Brazilian immigrants, there is still not an effective way to measure the number of Brazilian immigrants, who have mostly only learned what to do and how to act in situations that are not always agreeable, whether in the case of the death of a lovedone, an accident at work, or even a sickness.All the information in the Manual do Imigrante that refer to state laws concentrate on the states of New York and New Jersey, which have the largest number of Brazilians. The authors plan to update this book each year and expect to include information on other states and their respective laws..Despite the seriousness of the information included, many subjects have been communicated in a good-humored way, through drawings by Diogo Hayashi, a Brazilian who lived in the US for many years. His illustrations characterize very well many of the situations faced by immigrants in the US.Manual do Imigrante includes community participation, through information provided by immigrants and professionals specialized in the appropriate subjects.

JocÉli Meyer is a Journalist and has a BA in Social Communication from Unimep (Methodist University of Piracicaba, Brazil, 1998). She has worked as a reporter for the Brazilian Community printed media (Newspapers and magazines) for the past four years, during which she closely followed the problems that immigrants face in the USA. Ms. Meyer has also lived in Ireland and collaborated with the Irish Times newspaper. In Brazil, she worked for several respected Newspapers and magazines such as "O Estado de SÃo Paulo", "Estado de Minas", "Revista Trip".
