In his forward to this biography Prince Charles, Colonel in Chief of the Parachute Regiment, said he doubted if an soldier had made a greater contribution to the Regiment that Alastair Pearson, describing his exploits as legendry, his leadership as outstanding and his gallentry conspicious. The latter is confirmed by his DSO and three bars, marking him as a fighting soldier of the highest quality. He joined the Territorial Army in the early 1930s, fought in the disastrous 1940 campaign in France, and early in 1941 volunteered for "Special Service" which took to the newly formed Parachute Regiment. His first action with the regiment was in Tunisia, where his unit was in many engagements, next came Sicily and then a key rolel in the paratroop landings in Normandy on D-Day. Post-war he rejoined the Territorials and commanded a parachute unit in Glasgow --- full circle for. a renowned front-line soldier. 134 pages including index, 12 b/w photos, three maps.
