It is a radical departure from the usual monograph approach, which concentrates on either the ship's service history, its technical details or external appearance. All of these aspects are included in the Anatomy of the Ship, but what makes the series unique is a complete set of superbly executed line drawings, both the conventional type of plan as well as explanatory perspective views, with fully descriptive keys. Although elaborate drawings are extremely popular in aviation publications, this is the first attempt to document a ship in similar depth -- literally down to the nuts and bolts. These drawings are accurate, visually exciting and totally comprehensive, offering ship buffs, historians and modelmakers a novel insight into the tenicalities of each ship type covered. With a trial speed of nearly 40 knots, Bartolomeo Colleoni was arguably the fastest cruiser ever built, but was only one of a series of such ships -- known as the Condottieri type -- built by the Italian Navy between the wars to counter the large French superdestroyers. The ship was sunk in a famous duel with the Australian cruiser Sydney in 1940. This volume features: full description of the ship and her weapons, including details of the planned conversions to anti-aircraft cruiser; pictorial section; action painting and colour guide on the jacket; more than 300 perspective and 3-view drawings, with in-depth descriptive keys, of every detail of the ship -- general arrangements, hull construction, machinery, superstructure, rig, armament, fire control, fittings, boats and aircraft; a complete anatomy of the ship in words, photographs and drawings.
