Inhaltsangabe

Born into a modest family, against a background of endless personal trials, Marcel Van (1928-1959) wished to become a priest. Therese of Lisieux chose him as her disciple par excellence of 'the little way'. Van was to give up his wish to become a priest and enter the Hanoi monastery as a humble Redemptorist bother: 'Jesus confided a mission to me, that of turning suffering into joy ... My joy is to love and to be loved.' Combining an extreme sensitivity with an insane but saint-like audacity, his life was spent in silence against a backcloth of political turmoil until his death in a North Vietnamese prison-camp.
Van wrote his life story - on nine hundred pages of exercise book - at the request of his spiritual director, Antonio Boucher CSsR (1907-1991) who translated the whole of Van's work into French and, in 1984, initiated the first steps towards his Beatification.
