This books attempts a different approach to the subject of the link between music and physics, in that the author attempts to develop the physical concepts and the musical applications together. He attempts to, firstly, explain the physics that is involved in music, and has simplified it by avoiding algebraic mathematical equations. Secondly he attempts at each stage to make it clear where the physics is important in a musical context. The material is arranged historically, but in no way does the book claim to be a serious historical work. The treatment of musical instruments will not fit into this simple historical ordering, so instead they are dealt with in the chapters called interludes.
