Large format facsimile of the 1729 5th edition, 29x23cm, brown cloth boards with gilt titles, gilt top edge, inside a DJ that shows the original title page on the front. Very crisp, clean and bright inside and out with the exception of very light soiling to the outside edges of the textblock and a gift inscription to the FFEP. The cream DJ has slight tanning to the spine, a very small mark to the front and slight bumping along the top edge, otherwise excellent. First presented in 1662 as a paper to the Royal Society, Silva was published as a book two years later in 1664, and is recognised as one of the most influential texts on forestry ever published.
