But the prophets' words are for all generations, especially our own. Amos criticizes the Hebrews for treating each other badly and reminds them that God delivered them out of oppression to live justly. (Sounds familiar.) Hosea berates people for straying from, even abandoning, God. (Sounds familiar.) But the most familiar sound of the prophets is the promise of God's steadfast love. This series of Bible studies was developed for the People of the Covenant program in the Church of the Brethren and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and is now widely used interdenominationally. The covenant model pulls together small groups of people who study the Bible, pray, help each other, and take on acts of Christian service.
