Q. What is meditation? A. Meditation is thinking about the things of God and what they mean for our life. It may include all forms of prayer and range from wordless adoration to practical, hard thinking for ordinary day to day living and action in the light of God's love. Often it proceeds to an act of will, a resolution, or decision, or a nearer approach to God's love. Ideally, every Church service should have moments of silence for meditation. We must listen to God (1 Sam. 3:10). One way to practice meditation is to start with a passage from the Bible (perhaps our daily reading), and to ask ourselves what God is saying to us through it, here and now. In this way we are seeking to know God's will for us, and we may proceed to a new decision for action or self-dedication in the light of it. Writing down parts of our meditation may also be helpful.
