Each lesson in the Chinese Odyssey, Volume 1 workbook is comprised of reading, speaking, and listening exercises such as vocabulary quizzes, listening comprehension, role play, dialogue construction, fill-in-the blanks, e-mail composition, character/radical recognition, and analytical reading. This workbook is the print equivalent of the multimedia CD-ROM, around which the Chinese Odyssey course is based. It is designed to be used in tandem with the multimedia CD-ROMs, or it can be used together with the companion audio CDs as an alternative to a multimedia-based course. Students can complete listening, reading, writing, and most speaking exercises with or without the multimedia CD-ROMs; some speaking exercises on the multimedia CD-ROMs that require voice recording and playback cannot be completed with the workbook alone. Volumes 1 and 2 comprise the first year of a three-year Chinese course. This workbook contains traditional characters.
