TERRY PIPER is a former high school English and ESL teacher. She holds a doctorate in linguistics and is Vice-President, Education, of the Open Learning Agency and Provost of the British Columbia Open University. Terry was Dean of the Faculty of Education at York University in Toronto, and has worked in the United States, Canada and China, focusing on teacher education - and the education of teachers of English as a second language in particular. She is committed to public education and to removing the barriers that face many learners, particularly immigrants. Terry Piper has published more than three dozen articles and two books. When she isn't working, she writes fiction, cooks and plays with her cats, who are gradually taking over the Piper household and putting her at risk of becoming an eccentric cat lover.
