His father, Edward Weston, expanded the medium with the credo that - the camera should be used for the recording of life, for rendering the very substance and quintessence of the thing itself. Weston is generally acknowledged as one of the finest printers alive. In this Aperture monograph, 100 plates of Weston's pictures are reproduced virtually to facsimile quality. Among the selections from the artist's lifework are brilliant, sometimes brooding studies of ice fragments, rock details, glaciers, harbors, desert plants, dunes, seascapes, and industrial debris.
