The MiG-21 resulted from a 1953 Soviet Air Force specification. The MiG-21 began production in 1959 and would continue in production until 1985, making it not only the most produced supersonic jet aircraft ever, but also the longest production run of any combat aircraft. It has been in use with nearly 50 different countries around the world and remains in use by some countries even today. This title includes inside and out coverage of the MiG-21F-13 (Fishbed C), PF (Fishbed D), PFM Fishbed F), U (Mongol A), and UM (Mongol B) variants. For a while AMC had the small-car market virtually locked up, but then competition arose from Ford, Plymouth, and Chevrolet. When the fuel crisis hit in the 1970s, the small cars from AMC once again refilled corporate coffers. Even a partnership with French automaker Renault and the introduction of forward-thinking all-wheel-drive cars couldn't save AMC.
