The third version of the author's how-to backpack text ( Pleasure Packing , Condor Bks., 1972. o.p.; Pleasure Packing for the Eighties , Ten Speed Pr., 1981) advises the novice on technique, and informs the advanced backpacker on new equipment and how it has evolved. Wood has been evaluating and using backpacking equipment for a third of a century, and his opinions on what is best or practical are sound. He supports his contentions with recent evidence and theory, forming the basis for this new edition. He concludes with a flourish: a unique chapter introducing the backpacker to trout fishing. Buy this if your backpacking books are more than a couple of years old.

The book was a Lincoln NE public library book and has a sticker on the front and the spine area, a pocket in the back and several stamps. The covers are shiny with minor wear and light flexing and look good. The spine is tight with minor wear but no creases showing. The pages are white with machine rounded corners and little wear and no marks except the library stuff. 299 pages with tourism information and an index in the back plus ad pages.
