He opened the batting for Essex for many a year; he spent much of the second world war in the east; and he became known for his Christian beliefs and outlook. Foreword by Sir Neville Cardus, and edited by David Frith. This is an ex library copy but the evidence thereof is limited to a rubber stamp on the copyright page of the book and to a label at the foot of the spine on the jacket. Book in fair condition: covers bumped at corners; an inclination to foxing throughout; some smudge-type marks in a few places; a previous owner's identifying letter at lower right of front pastedown; the rubber stamp on the copyright page; foxing marks on top edge of the text block. Jacket poor: covers marked and corners damaged; spine discoloured, damaged towards bottom and with the library label half-attached; a few marks internally; not price-clipped. This copy is bright, tight, white and square. The unclipped dustwrapper is lightly sunned to the spine so best descibed as near fine condition, it has now been covered in clear, removable, archival, protective film. Thomas Carter Dodds, known in his cricket career as Dickie Dodds and outside it as Carter Dodds, (29 May 1919 - 17 September 2001) was an English first-class cricketer who played for Essex between 1946 and 1959 as a hard-hitting opening batsman.[1] He was born in Bedford, Bedfordshire and died in Cambridge. The son of a clergyman, Dodds was a strong supporter of the Moral Re-Armament movement and cricket was, in his view, "a reflection of the Great Creator" and should therefore be played in a suitably dashing and creative style.
