Hardback. Zustand: Good. USA ? A Picture Book To Remember Her By (1978) by Columbia Library International is pure late-70s confidence bound in glossy pages: a book that looks you straight in the eye and says, ?Right then. Here?s America,? as if the entire country can be politely contained between two covers and a reassuringly solid spine. And honestly? It almost pulls it off. The title is wonderfully, unintentionally dramatic. To Remember Her By. Not ?to visit,? not ?to learn about,? not ?a handy pictorial overview.? No ? remember her. It?s written like a love letter, a farewell, or a slightly theatrical postcard from someone who has just seen a very large sky and is still emotionally processing it. The irony, of course, is that America in 1978 isn?t exactly shy about being remembered. This is the USA as a greatest-hits visual album: big landscapes, iconic cities, famous landmarks, proud perspectives, and that unmistakable sense that if you can photograph it from the right angle, it becomes destiny. This is not a book that wants to argue. It wants to show . It?s the kind of volume you flip through and immediately start narrating to yourself: ?Ah yes, that mountain. That skyline. That bit of history I vaguely know from films.? It?s part travel fantasy, part nostalgia machine, and part time capsule of how America liked to present itself in full-colour print: broad-shouldered, scenic, and politely heroic. Even when it?s being calm, it?s being capital-C Cinematic. And there?s something genuinely charming about that. Before infinite scrolling, before everyone had a high-res camera in their pocket, books like this were how you toured a place from your sofa. They?re curated in that old-school way: each image feels chosen, each sequence feels like a guided route, and the whole thing is designed to leave you with a warm impression and a faint desire to pack a suitcase. It?s sincere, a bit grand, and just self-aware enough (now, from the distance of time) to be funny in the best way. Condition: Good , which is perfect for a book whose main job is to be handled and enjoyed. A picture book in ?Good? condition feels like it?s done its duty: pulled off shelves, leafed through on rainy afternoons, maybe used to settle debates about what counts as ?the real America,? and generally lived with rather than preserved in a plastic shrine. And it?s sold by Crappy Old Books , whose name sounds like a punchline but tends to deliver the opposite: honest second-hand stock with character, not sterile collectables with anxiety. If you want a big, comforting, retro-optimistic visual romp through the USA ? a book that?s equal parts souvenir, mood, and 1970s glossy postcard rack ? USA ? A Picture Book To Remember Her By is exactly the kind of unexpected shelf treasure you?ll be weirdly pleased to own. It?s earnest, it?s dramatic, it?s delightfully overconfident? and it?s very hard not to enjoy. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 5178
