Inhaltsangabe

Work is an anthology of poems, essays, reports and accounts of experiences of all sorts of jobs. Both paid and unpaid work are included. We meet hospital cleaners, midwives, carpenters, clerks, call centre operators, farmers, corner shopkeepers, electronics factory assemblers, temps, teachers, tarmac makers and many more. Frequently, we hear of the misery and waste of life caused by the neoliberal global market with its cuts, casualisations and pursuit of profit, whatever the cost to workers and the Earth. But people don't want no work. With skills and talents to exercise, they want a reasonable chance to make something of their lives, contribute something, do their own thing. Despite the attacks on our common humanity -- reducing us to 'resources' or 'markets' -- people insist on wanting to be human beings.
