Edition of 750 copies. Printed wrappers, 4to, 25 cm, 84 pp, ills. Catalogue of an exhibition held at the Grolier Club in New York, May 24-July 29, 1994. From the preface: "This catalogue of the books of the poet Pierre Lecuire describes the entire oeuvre and career of one of France's most important contemporary publishers and accompanies a landmark exhibition of his work held at the Grolier Club in the summer of 1994. The qualifier "landmark" is used proudly and properly, for even though the work of Pierre Lecuire has been known and appreciated in Europe for four decades, it has rarely been seen in the United States - even by specialists - until now. This catalogue of his books, the first in English, and this exhibition, the first in this country, are attempts to remedy that situation. Here, too, the books of Mila Gagarine-Lecuire, also a poet and bookmaker, are recorded along with the work of her husband. For this project the Beinecke Library at Yale University, the Library of Congress, and the Grolier Club of New York have collaborated to bring the books and poetry of Pierre and Mila Lecuire to the attention of American bibliophiles. As editor of the catalogue, Vincent Giroud, the Curator of Modern Books and Manuscripts at the Beinecke Library, has undertaken to place the work of the Lecuires into the context of late twentieth-century French literary culture, and has provided detailed descriptive notes to all the books. The bibliography, biographical notes, various lists and supplementary texts found here were compiled by Pierre Lecuire himself and are derived from his most recent catalogue in French, the Fonds Pierre et Mila Lecuire, published by the Bibliothèque Méjanes in Aix-en-Provence in 1993. The bibliographic entries for the Méjanes catalogue were written by Dominique Mazel, a Curator at the Bibliothèque Méjanes; these and all the other sections of the catalogue were translated, adapted and updated for our edition by Mr. Giroud and Véronique Plesch of Princeton University (except where noted)." With original prospectuses for two of Lecuire's books laid in (as issued). Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers ABE-45039
